Typhoon Shanshan Hits Southern Japan
Typhoon Shanshan, moving at a slow pace akin to a bicycle, has begun unleashing heavy rain across southern Japan. This storm is expected to impact most of the country with strong winds, high waves, and significant rainfall. On August 28, 2024, weather officials issued the highest-level warnings as the typhoon approaches southern Kyushu, with predictions of up to 60 centimeters (23.6 inches) of rain within 24 hours. The situation has led to considerable concern over potential extensive damage.
Injuries and Missing Persons: Three individuals have been injured and three are missing due to a landslide and a driving accident caused by the storm.
Fatalities: The typhoon has already resulted in one death due to a landslide.
