UK Named Country Partner for Hornbill Festival 2025

In a move that strengthens international cultural ties and boosts tourism in Northeast India, the United Kingdom has been officially named as the Country Partner for the Hornbill Festival 2025, to be held from 1 to 10 December at Kisama, Kohima, in Nagaland. This announcement marks a milestone in global collaboration for one of India’s most vibrant indigenous festivals.

UK–Nagaland Cultural Collaboration

The partnership was formalized in New Delhi through a signing ceremony between Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and British Council India Country Director Alison Barrett. The event was also attended by British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, showcasing the high-level importance both governments place on cultural diplomacy.

Under this partnership,

  • The British Council and the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata will curate artistic and cultural programming.
  • A UK-based artist will be invited to perform and engage with Indian audiences at the festival.
  • This collaboration reflects the broader Indo-UK commitment to people-to-people ties and mutual cultural exchange.

Air India Express as Official Travel Partner

In another major announcement, Air India Express was named the Official Travel Partner for the festival. As part of this collaboration,

  • The airline will unveil a Boeing 737-8 aircraft with a special livery inspired by the Tsüngkotepsü design — a traditional shawl of the Ao Naga warrior tribe.
  • This design is part of the airline’s ‘Tales of India’ initiative, showcasing regional art and heritage.
  • The special aircraft will be formally received on November 22 at Dimapur Airport by the Chief Minister of Nagaland. The airline also announced a 15% discount on all flights to and from Nagaland, starting November 20, to encourage festival travel and tourism.

Chief Minister’s Vision

Welcoming the partnerships, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed optimism that these collaborations will,

  • Boost cultural tourism in Nagaland
  • Promote local art and heritage on a global platform
  • Create avenues for economic growth through increased connectivity and international visibility

These developments are aligned with the state’s broader vision to position Nagaland as a global cultural destination.
