Union Health Ministry Introduces Comprehensive Childhood Diabetes Care Framework
The Union Health Ministry has released the comprehensive framework for managing childhood diabetes. This decision was announced at a national healthcare summit and this initiative will focuses on to early screening, diagnosis, treatment and long term care for children. This initiative will cover all the age groups from birth to 18 years of age. And the framework also ensures the free medical support and it aims to reduce the complications and deaths caused by diabetes.
For the first time newly released “Guidance Document on Diabetes Mellitus in Children’ have introduced the structured and standardized national approach to tackle childhood diabetes in the country
This framework ensures that children across the country receive timely diagnosis, continuous care and will reducing long-term health risks. It will connects various levels of healthcare from community screening to the advanced hospital treatment which will make a seamless system for managing the disease.
Additionally this initiative will marks the significant shift towards to addressing the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in children.
The main pillar of this initiative is the universal screening of the children right after birth to the 18 years of age. The screening will be conducted via community and school-based platforms and will ensures wider each and early identification.
If the Children are suspected of having diabetes they will undergo immediate blood glucose testing and after it will be referred to the district level hospitals for the confirmation and identification.
To improve the early detection the government has promoted the 4Ts awareness framework which highlights the common warning signs of the Type 1 diabetes.
This simple awareness model will empowers the parents, teachers and caregivers to identify symptoms early and seek timely medical help.
