UP Declares Maha Kumbh Area a New District for 2025 Mela
In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj as a new district, named the Maha Kumbh Mela district, ahead of the grand religious event scheduled for January 2025. This decision marks a crucial step to streamline the administrative and logistical efforts for the smooth organization of the Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions of pilgrims from across the world. The creation of the new district aims to enhance coordination, law enforcement, and resource management for the event.
The new district will have a dedicated administrative team responsible for overseeing the Mela’s preparation and ensuring the provision of necessary services during the event. The Mela Adikari, responsible for the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, will hold powers equivalent to those of an Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Additional District Magistrate to ensure seamless governance.
The establishment of the Maha Kumbh Mela district reflects the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to improving the experience for devotees and managing resources effectively for the event. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the move would enhance coordination and management during the event, ensuring a safe and well-organized Mela.
The Kumbh Mela, a significant religious gathering held every 12 years, is set to begin in January 2025. This decision comes at a time when the preparations for the event are underway to accommodate pilgrims from across India and the globe. This is a step toward ensuring better administration, continuing the state’s efforts to manage large-scale events smoothly as seen in past Kumbh Melas.
