UP Launches Project GANGA to Bring High Speed Internet to 20 Lakh Rural Homes

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched Project GANGA. This project launched to provide high-speed internet connectivity to more than 20 lakh rural households over the next two to three years. This initiative focuses on expanding digital connectivity in villages and semi urban regions along with creating new employment opportunities. For the implement of this Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the State Transformation Commission (STC) and One OTT Entertainment Limited it is a subsidiary of the Hinduja Group.

Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh aims to expand high speed internet access to 20 lakh households. Which is particularly in rural and semi-urban regions where digital infrastructure remains limited.

This initiative is designed to ensure that broadband connectivity becomes accessible to villages and also helping residents access modern online services.

Behind Officials believe the project will transform the digital ecosystem of the state by enabling improved communication networks, online learning opportunities and access to digital platforms.

By strengthening digital connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, the project intends to bridge the gap between urban and rural internet availability.

Digital Service Providers Under Project GANGA

A main key feature of Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh is the creation of a strong network of Digital Service Providers (DSPs) at the Nyaya Panchayat level.

Around 8,000 to 10,000 local entrepreneurs will be selected to deliver broadband connectivity and digital services directly to villages.

These digital entrepreneurs will receive training, financial assistance, network infrastructure support and access to modern technology.

This system is expected to ensure reliable internet connectivity while building a sustainable digital service ecosystem across rural regions of the state.

Employment Opportunities and Women Participation

The implementation of Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh will expected to generate more than the one lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities. This initiative aims to create technology driven jobs while promoting entrepreneurship among local youth and rural communities.

Another important objective is encouraging women led entrepreneurship, with the government setting a target of around 50 percent participation of women among Digital Service Providers.

This approach aims to empower women economically while expanding digital access in rural areas.

Partnership with Hinduja Group

The success of Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh depends on collaboration between government institutions and private technology partners.

The MoU was signed in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh the between the State Transformation Commission and One OTT Entertainment Limited and which is the  company under the Hinduja Group.

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna stated that the project will strengthen digital infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh and expand opportunities in sectors such as online business, education and healthcare services.

The initiative is aligned with the government’s broader goal of ensuring broadband connectivity in every village.

Digital Highways and Rural Development Through Project GANGA

According to officials this digital infrastructure is becoming as important as physical highways in modern development. The CEO of the State Transformation Commission Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh and highlighted that Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh will function like a digital highway and connecting villages to the online economy.

Improved high speed internet connectivity in rural areas is expected to boost sectors such as telemedicine, online education, e-commerce, digital skilling and content creation.

This connectivity could help transform rural economies by opening new digital opportunities for local communities.

Benefits for Remote and Border Districts

One of the main goals of Project GANGA Uttar Pradesh is to improve connectivity in remote and border districts where internet access is currently limited. Regions such as Shravasti, Bahraich and Balrampur are expected to benefit significantly from the project.

The Better digital connectivity in Uttar Pradesh will allow residents of these districts to access online education, digital health services, government schemes and employment platforms.
