This time US Open 2026 will set to create the history in the Grand Slam for having the most generous prize money pool – $108 million. The tournament starts on August 30, 2026, and will end up on September 13 with the men’s singles final.

According to the United States Tennis Association (USTA), this year the overall purse is 20 percent higher than that of the previous year. More importantly the increased prize money for the singles tournaments only, whereas doubles and mixed doubles did not receive any significant additions.

The new $2 million fund is meant to support the current pension fund of the players.

Why is US Open 2026 Prize Money Historically Significant?

With the prize money of $108 million, the US Open 2026 becomes the tournament with the biggest purse in Grand Slam history. This trend shows that US Open continues to strive to provide players with more financial rewards.

Special attention should be paid to the singles draw. Apart from the huge amounts that players can win during the early stages of the game, the champion will get $5.5 million each.

US Open is historically famous due to its equality since in 1973 it became the first Grand Slam to offer equal prize money for both males and females.

The winner of men’s and women’s singles competitions will earn $5.5 million, while the second-place player will earn $2.8 million. Semifinalists will win $1.45 million, and quarterfinalists will walk away with $780,000.

The amount of the prize money is also relevant to players who have been defeated in the earlier stages. The first-round loser from the main draw will get $140,000, and qualifying losers will get prize money based on their level.

In doubles, the runners-up team will get $500,000, while the semifinalists will be awarded $250,000. For mixed doubles, the runners-up will again get $500,000, while the semifinalists will get $250,000 each.

Winner $1,000,000 $1,000,000

Semifinal $250,000 $250,000
Quarterfinal $125,000 $120,000
Third Round/First Round $80,000 $40,000
Second Round/Second Qualifying Round $50,000 $20,000
First Round/First Qualifying Round $35,000 $10,000

These amounts are listed per team, rather than per individual player.

Why Does the US Open Prize Money Matter?

The higher prize money helps all the participants during the competition, not only the winners. More money to be distributed during the qualification rounds and the early rounds of the main tournament would be helpful for many lower-ranked players due to their high costs related to traveling and training.

The extra $2 million for the players would also increase the financial assistance provided in the professional tennis environment.
