The Uttar Pradesh government is set to make a significant investment of approximately Rs 33,500 crore (around $4 billion) to spur growth in the Information Technology (IT) and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sectors over the next five years. The plan aims for a tenfold increase in these sectors by developing technology hubs across five major cities: Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj (Allahabad).
Noida: Designated as a major IT and ITeS hub, leveraging its established global IT ecosystem.
Lucknow: Targeted for advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
Kanpur: To become a center for drones and robotics.
Varanasi and Prayagraj: Will focus on Engineering Research and Development (ER&D).
The Yogi Adityanath government is developing strategies to attract global investors, including those from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), to engage with the state’s AI and drone sectors. Additionally, there are plans to grant industry status to IT companies, allowing them to benefit from industrial electricity tariffs. This initiative is part of the government’s broader goal to enhance Uttar Pradesh’s IT infrastructure and appeal to international tech firms.
