During her career, she held several important positions in the Union government. She worked in ministries like labour, health and family welfare, rural development, transport and urban development. She earned the trust of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi during her time as a minister.
Her political journey began in 1960 when she was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council at just 28 years old. Later, she became a minister in the state government. She entered national politics after winning a by-election from Azamgarh in 1978.
Mohsina Kidwai achieved something very rare in Indian politics. She served in four different legislative bodies – the Legislative Council, Legislative Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. This shows her wide experience and strong presence in public life.
She was a senior leader in the Congress party and played an important role in decision-making. She was also part of key committees like the Congress Working Committee and the Central Election Committee. She guided the party during many challenges times.
