Vijay Rupani was a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021. Vijay Rupani was appointed as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat on August 7, 2016, following the resignation of Anandiben Patel. He continued in this role until September 2021. He led the BJP to a victory in the 2017 Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections and strengthened the party’s position in the state.

On June 12, 2025, Vijay Rupani tragically lost his life in a plane crash during an official visit. Initial reports confirmed that the aircraft faced technical issues shortly after take-off. His sudden demise marked a huge loss to the BJP and Indian politics as a whole.
