Prestigious Vir Chakra awardee KG George who was a hero of the 1965 India-Pakistan War. He recently passed away at the age of 95 in Kerala. The retired Lance Havildar of the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals died at his residence in Kottayam due to age related health issues. KG George was born in February 1931 in Kerala. He also served the Indian Army with distinction. His courageous skills during the 1965 India-Pakistan War earned him the prestigious Vir Chakra. Which is the third highest wartime gallantry award in India.

KG George’s Role in the 1965 India-Pakistan War

During the 1965 India-Pakistan War KG George served as a Lineman Field in the Corps of Signals.

He was responsible for maintaining crucial military communication systems.

His duties were important because of the uninterrupted communication is required for coordinating battlefield operations.

Between September 6 and September 10 1965 The George continued restoring communication lines despite intense enemy shelling and air attacks.

His efforts ensured that Indian Army units remained connected during crucial combat operations in the Wagah sector.

According to the official citation KG George displayed extraordinary courage and dedication.

While restoring the disrupted communication lines between the Brigade Headquarters and forward battalions during heavy enemy attacks.

On the night of September 8 and 9 1965 he has risked his life to establish a communication line.

His bravery and commitment to duty were recognized with the Vir Chakra and also awarded for acts of gallantry during wartime.

Which is a specialized unit responsible for maintaining communication networks within the armed forces.

This unit ensures smooth coordination between different army formations during operations.

The Corps of Signals was established on February 15 1911.
