West Bengal Launches Four Toll-Free Helplines Against Extortion

Four toll-free helpline numbers have been inaugurated in West Bengal to help citizens directly complain about activities such as extortion, syndicate activities, illegal collection of toll taxes from roads, and liquor. Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured swift action on all complaints received via these toll-free numbers after assessing their performance during his recent visit to the state. This effort is being made to help citizens directly register their complaints and also take strong action against these illegal activities.

Four Toll-Free Helpline Numbers Launched

These toll-free helpline numbers have been dedicated for the registration of different kinds of complaints.

The four helpline numbers are as follows,

  • 155334 – Extortion
  • 155335 – Syndicate activities
  • 155337 – Illegal road and toll tax collections
  • 155339 – Illegal liquor

The toll-free helpline service is meant for providing a dedicated channel for complaints.

Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah reviewed the working of newly set up helplines during his three-day tour to West Bengal.

According to the minister’s social media post, he met in Siliguri with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and other officials to discuss the process of registering complaints.

He said that actions would be taken immediately against the complaints registered on four helpline numbers. Review of these numbers was based on the process through which these numbers work as an effective communication bridge between citizens and concerned authorities.

What Type of Complaints Can Be Registered?

Every helpline is designed to receive complaints regarding some specific illegal activity. Citizens will be able to register complaints about extortion, syndicate, illegal collections and liquor through these numbers.
