Ayodhya is situated on the eastern bank of the holy Saryu River. It lies in the central part of Uttar Pradesh. The city is surrounded by other important places like Lucknow, which is about 130 kilometers to the west, and Faizabad, which is just 7 kilometers to the east.

The city experiences a tropical climate, with hot summers and cool winters. The best time to visit Ayodhya is between October and March when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for sightseeing.
