The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is the main organization that manages and promotes field hockey and indoor hockey around the world. It organizes major international tournaments, including the Hockey World Cup. FIH was founded in 1924 and has grown into a global body with many member countries. The organization also sets rules for the spot and ensures fair play in international competitions.
The headquarters of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) is in Lausanne, Switzerland. Before 2005, the office was in Brussels, Belgium, but it was later shifted to Lausanne. This city is called the Olympic Capital because many important sports bodies are located there. From its Lausanne office, FIH looks after the rules, events, and development of field hockey all around the world.
FIH was founded on 7 January 1924 in Paris, France by Paul Leautey, who became its first president. The organization was formed because field hockey was not included in the 1924 Summer Olympics. The first countries to join as members were Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Spain and Switzerland.
In 1982, FIH merged with the International Federation of Women’s Hockey Associations (IFWHA). IFWHA was founded in1927 by Australia, Denmark, England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, the United States and Wales to promote women’s hockey.
Since 2005, FIH has been headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland after shifting from Brussels, Belgium.

FIH has also committees that oversee different aspects of the sport, such as rules, technical development and medical safety. It works closely with international sports organization like the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
