India is a land of diversity where every region is famous for something unique — from spices and crops to cultural traditions. Some districts are so closely linked with their main produce that they earn special titles. Among them, one district in the southern part of the country has gained recognition for producing large quantities of ginger, earning it the proud nickname “Ginger City.”
Currently, Madhya Pradesh is the largest producer of ginger in India. The state has recorded over 692,000 tonnes of ginger production, making it the top contributor in the country.
The main reasons behind this success are:
India is one of the world’s leading producers of ginger, and Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh is proudly known as the “Ginger City of India.” The district has fertile soil and a suitable climate that makes it perfect for large-scale ginger farming. Chhindwara’s local markets are filled with ginger traders, and the spice is even supplied to other states. This strong link with ginger cultivation earned it the famous title.
Apart from Chhindwara, the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh also plays an important role in ginger farming.
