Which is the Largest Bus Stand of Uttar Pradesh? Know the Name

Uttar Pradesh is India’s most populated state and has a massive road transport network connecting cities, towns, and villages. With millions of people traveling daily, bus stands play a vital role in keeping the state connected. Among them, one bus stand stands out as the largest, equipped with modern facilities and serving as a central hub for passengers traveling within the state and to neighboring regions.

Beginning of Road Transport Service in UP

The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) was officially established on 15 May 1947. At that time, the service started with only 421 buses and about 250 employees. The beginning was small, but it marked the foundation of organized bus transport in the state.

The First Bus Route in UP

The very first bus service in Uttar Pradesh was launched between Lucknow and Barabanki in 1947. Only 20–25 passengers traveled in that bus. The ticket fare was fixed at 15 paise, which was considered valuable at that time. This simple beginning later expanded into one of the largest road transport networks in India.

Largest Bus Stand of Uttar Pradesh

When it comes to the biggest bus terminal in UP, the Jhakarkati Bus Stand in Kanpur holds that position. It is also called the Intercity Bus Terminal. Every day, thousands of passengers use this bus stand to travel within the state and to other parts of India.

Significance of Jhakarkati Bus Stand

Located in Kanpur, one of the busiest cities in UP

  • Handles hundreds of buses daily
  • Connects UP to Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan
  • Serves as a major hub for interstate and intercity travel

Because of its scale and daily passenger movement, it is considered the largest and one of the busiest bus stands in Uttar Pradesh.
