Who Is Ancy Sojan? Kerala Long Jumper Who Broke Anju Bobby George's 22-Year-Old National Record
Ancy Sojan, who is a rising long jumper from Kerala has rewritten the history books by breaking the country’s one of the longest-standing athletics records. At the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2026 in Bhubaneswar, the 25 year old produced stunning jump of 6.88 meters, and with this she surpassed Anju Bobby George’s iconic national record of 6.83 metre which had stood unbeaten for the 22 years.
Ancy Sojan is an Indian long jump athlete and she comes from Thrissur, Kerala. She was born on March 1, 2001, she has steadily emerged as India’s leading field athletes with consistent performances at national and international competitions.
Apart from representing Kerala in the domestic athletics, Ancy also competes for the Services team and serves as the Chief Petty Officer in the Indian Navy.
Her disciplined training and steady improvement have made her as country’s one of the most promising track and field athletes.
At the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2026, Ancy had delivered the performance of her career.
She began the competition with a strong jump of 6.73 metres before producing a sensational 6.88-metre leap on her fifth attempt and with this broke the long-standing national record.
She concluded the event with the another impressive jump of 6.69 metres to comfortably win the gold medal.
This record-breaking effort helped to surpassed the Anju Bobby George’s 6.83-metre national record, set during the 2004 Athens Olympics, and ended a remarkable 22-year reign.
To breaking the Anju Bobby George’s national record is considered as one of the biggest milestones in Indian athletics.

Silver Medal at the 2023 Asian Games
Ancy had announced herself on the continental stage by winning the silver medal in the women’s long jump at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou after recording a jump of 6.63 metres.
Silver Medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships
She continued her impressive run by securing another silver medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships and reinforced her status as one of Asia’s top long jumpers.
Bronze Medal at the 2026 Asian Indoor Championships
Earlier in the year 2026, Ancy has also added another international medal to her collection by winning the bronze at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships.
