Who is Puneet Gupt? New DNPA Chairperson and His Vision for Digital Media

Puneet Gupt has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) on March 24, 2026. He is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at Times Internet. He will succeeds Mariam Mammen Mathew who completed her two year tenure. As rapid changes are driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital journalism, growing rules and regulation his role as chairperson of DNPA play significant role.

New Leadership Team and Key Appointments

The recent board meeting of DNPA not only just confirmed the Puneet Gupt’s elevation but also done changes to leadership structure as to address emerging industrial needs.  Gupt earlier served as the vice chairperson and has been actively involved in several strategic initiatives of the association.

  • Anant Goenka, Executive Director of The Indian Express Group has been appointed as the vice chairperson.
  • While the Dhruba Mukherjee, CEO of ABP Group will continue as the treasurer.

Mariam Mammen Mathew outgoing chair-person had played a key role to strengthen DNPA’s institutional framework.  Her tenure was focused on to building a unified voice for digital publishers especially emerging debates around data privacy, platform regulation, and revenue sharing.
