Who Is the Newly Appointed CMD of Steel Authority of India Limited?

Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda has officially taken the charge as the Chairman & Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). He has experienced over the three decades in the company and his elevation has marks the significant leadership transition. He is known for his strong financial and operational expertise and also transform the India’s growing steel sector.

His appointment as CMD reflects his long standing association and contribution with the SAIL. He began his journey in the year 1992 as a Management Trainee (Technical) after completing his engineering degree.

Over the years he has handled multiple responsibilities across the various plants and units, gaining expertise in operations, finance and commercial strategy.

Before becoming CMD, he served as,

  • Director (Finance)
  • Held additional charge as Director (Commercial) for around nine months

His rise with in the organization showcases the strong example of internal leadership development in India’s public sector enterprises.

During his tenure as the Director (Finance), he led the several initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and profitability.

These includes enhancing production through better product mix, also introducing technical improvements in operations.

As Director (Commercial) his focus was on aligning with the business strategies with market demand. He worked toward the,
