Who Is Uma Kashvi? 15-Year-Old Becomes Youngest Player Signed in WPL History
The Karnataka all-round cricketer Uma Kashvi, who is also known by her maiden name Kashvi Kandikuppa, has become the youngest cricketer to get signed up for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) to date, with Delhi Capitals signing her for ₹10 lakh through the WPL 2027 auction held on 28 October 2026. Born on 9 April 2011, she has become the youngest player to sign a WPL deal, breaking the previous record held by Deeya Yadav. Her performances in the junior-level cricket tournaments have made her one of the rising talents in Indian women’s cricket.
Outlook India+1
Uma Kashvi is a young cricketer from Karnataka who plays as an all-rounder with both her bat and spin bowling skills.
She bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off-spin.
Her performance in junior cricket, such as the BCCI Women’s Under-15 One-Day Tournament, gained her a reputation before the WPL auction. She was picked by Delhi Capitals for ₹10 lakh.
Kashvi was signed by the Delhi Capitals during the auction held in Kochi on October 28, 2026. The franchise paid ₹10 lakh to sign her, which was her base price.
At the age of 15 years and 202 days, she secured the record of being the youngest player to sign a WPL contract.
Kashvi surpassed Haryana cricketer Deeya Yadav, who was signed at the age of 16 during the previous auction, to achieve this record. Kashvi is also the first cricketer to sign a contract in the WPL at the age of 15.
The above-mentioned milestone, however, is different from being a part of a significant Indian franchise T20 tournament, as there are different levels of credentials within this system.
It is Kashvi’s contribution with the bat that made her gain recognition because it is said that she made 516 runs at an average of 172, having scored three centuries and a half-century in the BCCI Women’s Under-15 One-Day Tournament.
The young cricketer has demonstrated her leadership qualities in the field of cricket by taking part in age-group cricket. She is believed to be the captain of the Under-15 team of Karnataka and the captain of Bengaluru Blasters in the Maharani Trophy.
Kashvi started playing cricket at about seven and a half years of age. The young player got further training in NICE Academy, Bengaluru.
Through India’s Under-19 series with Sri Lanka in June and July in 2026, Kashvi has also gained experience against international competitors at the youth level.
According to Hindustan Times, Kashvi achieved a total of four wickets in the three T20 internationals and took two more wickets in the two one-day matches she played.
This experience contributes to her growth as she moves from age-group cricket to the professional franchise stage.
