World Chagas Disease Day observed globally on 14 April. On 14 April 2020, the world community is to celebrate World Chagas Disease Day for the 1st time. The main aim of marking the day is to increase awareness of Chagas disease and to marked as a day to spread awareness about this “silent and silenced disease”.

History of Chagas Disease:
The disease got its name from Dr Carlos Ribeiro Justiniano Chagas. He diagnosed the first patient with the disease in Brazil on April 14, 1909. A parasitic protozoan called Trypanosoma cruzi that causes this vector-borne disease is usually transmitted by faeces and urine of triatomine bugs or kissing bugs, which belongs to the family of assassin bugs.
