World Government Summit 2025: India Champions Green Growth and Climate Resilience
World Government Summit (WGS) 2025 commenced in Dubai from February 11 to 13, 2025, under the theme “Shaping Future Governments.” This 12th edition gathered global leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss emerging trends in governance and critical sectors. India, represented by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, emphasized its commitment to green growth and climate resilience, aligning with its ongoing environmental initiatives.
Minister Yadav participated in key sessions, including the High-Level Roundtable on the Future of Mobility and the XDGs 2045 Ministerial Roundtable. He highlighted India’s focus on capacity building in clean technology, electric vehicles, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Yadav also stressed the need for adequate financial resources to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in combating climate change and protecting environmental systems.
A significant aspect of India’s strategy is Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), an initiative introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This program advocates for a pro-planet lifestyle, encouraging sustainability at individual, community, and national levels. Minister Yadav elaborated on how Mission LiFE aims to ensure that current choices contribute to a better future, reflecting India’s proactive approach to environmental responsibility.
India’s participation in WGS 2025 builds upon a history of environmental efforts. In recent years, the country has made significant strides in renewable energy, aiming to deploy 500 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030, having already reached 200 GW. Additionally, India has been developing climate-resilient agricultural practices, including the release of 109 seed varieties designed to withstand extreme weather, supporting food security amidst climate challenges.
