It is an international forum where discussions take place on policy of global health, science, health financing, and government cooperation, along with international organizations, academia, civil society, and the private sector. The 2026 program emphasized the importance of having resilient, equitable and crisis-ready health systems.
The Government of Bangladesh and the European Investment Bank (EIB) made an announcement about their joint initiative of a €250 million program for improving the women’s health and building the healthcare system infrastructure of Bangladesh.
This program would help in developing facilities of maternal and child health, screening of cervical and breast cancers, and strengthening district hospitals and critical care facilities. This program is expected to serve nearly 47 million women and girls in the country, as per the United Nations in Bangladesh. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has supported the development of this program and would be providing technical support in its implementation.
This announcement reflects the significance of investment in healthcare infrastructure along with prevention of disease, early diagnosis, and obstetric emergencies.
A joint $100 million initiative between the Gates Foundation and Wellcome Leap was launched as Uzima: A Stillbirth Prevention Program.
The initiative seeks to prove that it is possible to reduce stillbirths by 50% over a decade in some selected countries. It puts emphasis on pregnancy-related problems that could be prevented and improved healthcare for mothers.
There is a need for stillbirth prevention globally because of factors such as accessibility to antenatal care, detection of potential problems, delivery by skilled practitioners and adequate medical services.
A commission set up by The Lancet found that the misuse of artificial intelligence and nuclear warfare are among the threats with the potential for leading to human extinction in the 21st century.
The issue goes beyond the idea of global health security that pertains to infectious diseases or other medical-related emergencies. Technological misuses, geopolitical conflicts, and massive disruption in society have been noted as issues that could pose dangers to human survival and healthcare in general.
Artificial intelligence can be used for disease diagnosis and drug development, among others. Yet, its misuse can present dangers that need to be governed and protected against. Nuclear warfare can result in human deaths, exposure to radiation, destruction of the environment, and collapse of healthcare systems.
Wellcome released results from the Wellcome Global Monitor 2026 report suggesting that public confidence in science has reduced in comparison with the confidence in science prior to the COVD-19 pandemic.
Confidence of the public plays a role in how people react to scientific information, vaccines, and other health information and emergencies. Good communication, accurate scientific research, and community engagement are vital in building trust in science.
The results have highlighted that science progress does not depend only on research and technology, but also on public confidence in the information behind the science.
According to Gallup in collaboration with the World Health Summit, results of the State of the World’s Emotional Health 2026 were shared.
This study found that there is a complicated link between the use of social media and emotional well-being. Results depended on many variables including age, time online, emotion being measured and region. The account of the World
Health Summit reported that moderate use of social media by adults was positively linked to well-being measures for several emotions but the relationship was different for different emotions in different countries.
Moreover, Germany has pledged to give €10 million through the GFF towards supporting maternal and child health.
The funds will be aimed at improving access to family planning commodities as well as other essential supplies needed to provide maternal, newborn and child health services via the Sustainable Commodities Access Program. Such funding underlines the need to ensure that the necessary health commodities are available for provision of the necessary healthcare services especially for women, newborns and children.
