Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day is observed every year on 27th June to raise awareness of the critical role MSMEs play in creating jobs, reducing poverty, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting inclusive economic development.
The observance also encourages the governments, businesses, financial institutions and development organizations to create an enabling environment where MSMEs can thrive through better access to finance, technology, innovation, and markets.

World MSME Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) via the Resolution A/RES/71/279 on 6th of April 2017.
Since then, 27 June has been observed annually to recognize the contribution of the MSMEs for the sustainable development and global economic prosperity.
The observance has also aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and it emphasizes the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in achieving inclusive growth.
The MSMEs are often described as the backbone of the world’s economy.
