World Rainforest Day is celebrated annually on June 22nd. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of rainforests and encourage their protection and conservation. The day was first observed in 2017 by the Rainforest Partnership.
The theme for World Rainforest Day 2024 is “Empowering the World in Defense of Our Rainforests.”
Rainforests play crucial roles in our planet’s health:
The Amazon rainforest, often called the “lungs of the planet,” produces about 20% of Earth’s oxygen and stores huge amounts of carbon dioxide.
Rainforests face several challenges:
People around the world participate in various activities:
Communities organize tree planting events to support reforestation efforts.
Schools and organizations hold workshops and seminars to teach about rainforest importance.
Rainforest-themed festivals, art shows, and film screenings raise awareness.
People raise money to support rainforest conservation projects.
The day encourages responsible consumption and sustainable agriculture to protect forests.
In 2024, the World Rainforest Day organizers will launch a pledge program. This program aims to encourage immediate action for rainforest and climate protection across all sectors.
