The theme of the day:
‘Quality Sleep, Sound Mind, Happy World’ is the theme for World Sleep Day this year to raise awareness about the impact of sleep on the mind and body.
Why is World Sleep Day celebrated?
Somnologists and researchers of sleep around the world created the day to counter misconceptions about the importance of sleep and its general disregard. While some successful people say they try to get close to the recommended 8 hours of sleep every night, others including some spiritual leaders take pride in not even getting half of it.
History of the day:
World Sleep Day is organised by the World Sleep Society and was first observed in 2008. It has come to be an annual awareness event ever since. The first World Sleep Day was aimed at bringing together sleep healthcare providers to disseminate information related to sleep around the world.
