Yoga Mahotsav 2026 Begins 100-Day Countdown to 12th International Day of Yoga

Yoga has become one of the most recognised wellness practices across the world. It promotes physical health, mental peace, and a balanced lifestyle. To celebrate this growing global movement, the Government of India launched Yoga Mahotsav–2026 in New Delhi. The event marks the beginning of the 100-day countdown to the 12th International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated worldwide in June 2026.

Inauguration of Yoga Mahotsav 2026

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Prataprao Jadhav inaugurated Yoga Mahotsav–2026 in New Delhi. The event was organised by the Ministry of Ayush to promote Yoga as a powerful tool for holistic health, well-being, and mental balance.

Over the past eleven years, the International Day of Yoga has seen increasing participation across many countries. This shows the growing importance of Yoga in preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyle management.

Launch of Yoga Protocols for Non-Communicable Diseases

During the event, the Minister launched “10 Yoga Protocols for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Target Groups.” These protocols are specially designed to help people manage health conditions and maintain overall well-being.

Key objectives of these protocols include:

  • Strengthening physical health
  • Improving mental resilience
  • Encouraging preventive healthcare
  • Supporting people of different age groups and health conditions

This initiative supports India’s vision of integrating Yoga and traditional wellness practices into modern healthcare.

Special Initiative: Yoga for Air Travel

A new programme called “Yoga for Air Travel” was also introduced at the event. It focuses on simple Yogic practices that travellers can perform during flights.

The protocol includes:

  • A five-minute routine of seated Yogasanas
  • Breathing exercises (Pranayama)
  • Short meditation practices

These practices can help:

  • Reduce travel-related stress
  • Improve blood circulation
  • Relieve muscle stiffness
  • Promote mental relaxation during long journeys

Yoga 365 Campaign and Digital Initiatives

As part of preparations for International Day of Yoga 2026, the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Habuild under the “Yoga 365” campaign.

The campaign aims to encourage people to practise Yoga every day through:

  • Free online Yoga sessions
  • A toll-free number for participant registration
  • Community-based awareness activities

The Ministry also highlighted digital innovations such as an AI-based posture correction tool developed under the Ayush Grid, which helps practitioners perform Yogasanas correctly and safely.
