5 Indian-origin women feature in ‘100 Most Influential Women in US Finance’ list

Barron’s prestigious annual ‘100 Most Influential Women in US Finance’ list includes five Indian-origin women executives who have attained prominent positions in the financial services industry and have played a role in shaping its future. These women are Anu Aiyengar from J.P. Morgan, Rupal J. Bhansali from Ariel Investments, Sonal Desai from Franklin Templeton, Meena Flynn from Goldman Sachs, and Savita Subramanian from Bank of America. The fourth annual version of the list, released last month, recognized these women and 95 others for their accomplishments and influence in the US finance industry.

Five Indian-origin women executives

  • Anu Aiyengar, who is in her 50s, became the global head of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) at J.P. Morgan in January 2022, after previously co-heading the division since 2020.
  • Rupal J. Bhansali, aged 55, is the chief investment officer and portfolio manager for Ariel Investments’ global equity strategies. She also serves on the board of directors for 100 Women in Finance.
  • Sonal Desai, who is 58 years old, made history in 2018 by becoming the first female chief investment officer of Franklin Templeton global investment fund. Prior to joining the firm in 2009, she had worked at the International Monetary Fund, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, and Thames River Capital. Currently, she is responsible for managing USD 137 billion in assets.
  • Meena Flynn joined JPMorgan Chase in 1999, and then moved to Goldman Sachs in 2000, where she became a partner in 2014. Today, Flynn is involved in several initiatives at Goldman Sachs, including co-chairing the global inclusion and diversity committee.
  • Subramanian, 50, the head of US equity and quantitative strategy at Bank of America, also made it to the list. She is responsible for recommending US sector allocations for equities and determining forecasts for the S&P 500 and other major US indices.
