The 5th edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) was inaugurated with grandeur at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on November 24, 2025. The ceremony marked a vibrant celebration of India’s youth sporting talent and Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage. Chief Minister of Rajasthan Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya lit the ceremonial lamp, officially commencing the games. The evening featured a captivating drone show and cultural performances reflecting Rajasthan’s traditions, setting an enthusiastic tone for the weeks ahead.
Jaipur will serve as the main host, featuring high-profile events such as athletics, shooting, archery, badminton, and hockey, while other cities will host additional competitions, creating a statewide celebration of sports.
Speaking at the event, Minister Mandaviya emphasized the national vision of promoting India as a global sporting powerhouse. He noted that Khelo India has become a key initiative for scouting and nurturing emerging talent. Athletes from previous editions have gone on to represent India in major international competitions.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma praised the youth of India, underlining their potential to bring glory to the nation through sports. He encouraged consistent dedication and hard work among young athletes to achieve success.
The Khelo India University Games were first launched in 2020 with the goal of strengthening the sports ecosystem at the university level and encouraging wider participation. The Games provide a national platform for student-athletes, promoting excellence, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.
This edition marks the first time Rajasthan is hosting the Games, symbolizing an important step in decentralizing sports infrastructure and opportunities to different parts of India.
