Historical Background of Ram Navami

According to Hindu scriptures the King Dasharatha performed a Putra Kameshti Yagya under the guidance of Maharishi Vashishtha to be blessed with the children.

After consuming the sacred kheer (prasadam) his queens gave birth to four sons Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna.

Lord Rama was born on the ninth day (Navami) of Chaitra month and it is marking the origin of Ram Navami celebrations.
