ACC Appoints Sanjay Khanna as BPCL Chairman and Managing Director

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has appointed Sanjay Khanna as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). This appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and he will lead the company until May 31, 2029. As he over three decades of experience in the refinery operations and technical services.

Sanjay Khanna New BPCL CMD: Key Highlights

Sanjay Khanna who was earlier serving as Director (Refineries) and interim CMD has now officially taken the top role in the BPCL.

His appointment is important because it ensures the continuity in leadership and it comes at that time when BPCL looking for the investment and expansion plans. He also strengthens BPCL focus on the petrochemicals and refining efficiency.

He will remain in office until his tenure comes to end in May 2029.

Career Background of Sanjay Khanna

Mr. Khanna had the strong technical and managerial background to the role.

  • He was graduated in chemical Engineering from National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli.
  • Also held the Postgraduate degree in Finance from University of Mumbai.

Professional Experience

  • He had over the 30 years of experience by leading the Mumbai and Kochi refineries of BPCL. He also played a key role in to modernizing refinery operations.
  • And worked extensively on the technical services and process optimization.
  • One of the big achievements of Khanna include the leading the Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP) which is marks the BPCL’s entry into niche petrochemicals..

Under the new CMD’s  leadership BPCL has outlined an vision of the ₹75,000 crore capital expenditure plan over the next five years.

    Also integration of petrochemical operations
    Enhancing the value-added product output

Also the flagship project of BPCL is the Bina Petrochemical and Refinery Expansion Project (BPREP) in Madhya Pradesh which is worth ₹50,000 crore.
