C D Gopinath, India's Oldest Test Cricketer, Passes Away at 96
A deep emotional moment for the Indian cricket as CD Gopinath who was the country’s oldest Test cricketer passed away at the age of 96 in Chennai. He was also the last surviving member of the historic Indian team which have secured the India’s first-ever Test victory against England in the year 1952. His passing marks the end of the important chapter in the Indian cricket history. He was also one of those who have laid the foundation for Indian cricket.
CD Gopinath will always be remembered as the part of the team which have achieved the landmark moment as India’s first Test win against England in Chennai (then Madras) in 1952.
This win is was not just a simple win but it was the turning point which have signaled the India’s emergence in the international cricket.
Gopinath also contributed with 35 runs in that match and played the supportive role but it was crucial with the match perspective.
He was born on March 1, 1930 and he had a concise but the impactful cricketing career.

He made his international debut at the Brabourne Stadium in 1951 against England and he scored an unbeaten 50.
His contribution to the Indian cricket also extended well beyond his playing career.
He also served as the national selector, chairman of selection committee and also the manager of the Indian team during the 1979 England tour.
His important administrative roles showcased the deep commitment to nurturing the Indian cricket.
The cricket fraternity mourned his loss and remembered him as the pioneer of Indian cricket. His legacy is defined as the part of India’s first historic Test win.
Also to contribution towards the domestic cricket in Madras (now Chennai) and also serving Indian cricket in leadership roles.
With his passing Chandrakant Patankar at the age of 95 he became the India’s oldest living Test cricketer.
