Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Takes Charge as 27th Chief of Naval Staff
Admiral Krishna Swaminathan has assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Indian Navy on 31st May, 2026. He succeeds the Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired after serving the nation for over four decades. He had a exceptional naval career spanning nearly 39 years Admiral Swaminathan brings the extensive operational, strategic and leadership experience.
The Indian Navy witnessed the major leadership transition on 31st May 2026 as the Admiral Krishna Swaminathan formally took charge as the India’s top naval commander.
As the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff, he will be responsible for to overseeing the naval operations, modernization efforts, maritime security strategies and strengthening the India’s naval presence across the Indian Ocean Region and beyond.
His appointment comes at the crucial time when maritime security has become increasingly important due to evolving geopolitical challenges and the growing strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific.
