On 14th June 2022, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the Agnipath scheme, which enables the Indian youth to serve in the Indian Armed Forces. Rajnath Singh, the Union Defence Minister said that through the ‘Agnipath’ scheme, all useful efforts will be made to create opportunities for youth to serve in Armed Forces. This scheme will help the youth to train and learn new technologies and improve their health levels. With increasing employment opportunities, the youth will learn new skills in various sectors. He also said that the ‘Agniveers’, who will be a part of the Armed Forces under the Agnipath scheme will be given a good pay package and an exit retirement package after 4 years of service.

On Saturday the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the government has decided to introduce a 10% reserved vacancy for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam rifles for Agniveers. Along with the 10% reservation of vacancies, there will be an age relaxation of 3 years beyond the upper age limit for Agniveers in two forces. There will be 5 years of age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit for the first batch of Agniveers.
Agnipath Scheme: No Rolling Back of the Scheme Officials Confirm
On Sunday, Lt Gen Anil Puri, the Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, said that the Agnipath scheme will not be rolled out. He also said, “Every individual who wants to join Agniveers, will have to pledge that he has not participated in the protest or vandalism”. According to Lt Gen Anil Puri, the scheme is going to encourage the youth to be a part of the Indian Armed Forces. It is a progressive scheme that will transform the image of the Armed Forces in India.
Agnipath Scheme: Recruitment Rally Notification
On 20th June 2022 the Indian Army issued the notification for the recruitment rally of Agniveers. As per the notification, the registration will start in July 2022. PRO Kohima, Ministry of Defence tweeted “First rally for recruitment of Agniveers will start in mid-August.” Through Twitter, the army informs that the notification for the Indian Navy recruitment will be out on 21st June 2022 and for the air force the notification will be out on 24th June 2022. Under the new model, the online registration on the force’s recruitment website is mandatory for all aspirants which will be commenced from July.
The Agniveers get a good salary package with high chances of salary increasing every year. In the 4-year service can get up to 40000 monthly packages and 11.71 lakh as Seva Nidhi packages.
