Air Marshal A K Bharti, Face of Operation Sindoor Briefings, Retires from Indian Air Force

Air Marshal A K Bharti, being one of Indian Air Force’s top officers and the major figure of the tri-services briefing during Operation Sindoor, called it a day on 31 July 2026 after a long and illustrious military career. Air Marshal Bharti was the Deputy Chief of Air Staff (DCAS) when retiring and played an important role in air operations and strategic thinking of India. His retirement marks the end of decades of service to the country where he occupied various operational and key leadership positions including Director General Air Operations (DGAO) during one of India’s important anti-terrorist operations.

Air Marshal A K Bharti Retires From Indian Air Force

Air Marshal A K Bharti has been retired from the Indian Air Force on July 31st, 2026 after serving for so many decades.

Before his retirement, he paid a visit to the National War Memorial in New Delhi and he offered floral tributes to soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country.

This ceremony showcased the traditions of armed forces in giving respect to deceased heroes.

Air Marshal A K Bharti was an officer in the Indian Air Force with a long career that included numerous operational and leadership positions.

Role in Operation Sindoor

Air Marshal Bharti rose to prominence during Operation Sindoor, which was India’s military answer to the terror attack that took place in Pahalgam.

After the terrorist act that claimed the lives of 26 civilians on 22 April 2025, mainly tourists, India started Operation Sindoor 7 May 2025.

During Operation Sindoor, the following actions took place,

• The Armed Forces of India executed precision airstrikes on nine targets of terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
  As per government statements, the assaults were conducted on terrorist targets, leading to the death of at least 100 terrorists.
• Air Marshal Bharti, being the Director General Air Operations, was instrumental in the operation, and reconed one of the prominent representatives of the military during the tri-service media briefings after this operation.

Face of Tri-service Press Conferences

Air Marshal Bharti was one of the participants in the extensive press briefings conducted during Operation Sindoor along with the, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, who was the Director General Military Operations at the time and Vice Admiral A N Pramod who was a member of the Indian Navy.

The conferences gave updates to the public about military operations and indicated the collaboration and cooperation among Army, Air Force and Navy.

His excellent communication skills established him as one of the key military figures involved in the operation.

Appointment as Deputy Chief of Air Staff

After the successful completion of Operation Sindoor, Air Marshal Bharti was appointed Deputy Chief of Air Staff in one of the topmost positions in the Indian Air Force.

Upon taking over the position, he went to the National War Memorial to pay tribute to the soldiers of the country, and show the dedication of the forces to the cause of service, sacrifice, and national security.
