PM Modi Inaugurates ₹5,000 Crore Bhogapuram International Airport
On 01st of August 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, located in the Bhogapuram area of Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. The construction cost of the airport is estimated to be around ₹5,000 crore by GMR Group, as well as the airport is likely to play an important part as an aviation center for North Andhra. Set to start operations from 17 August 2026, the airport will start commercial flight operations with an annual capacity of six million passengers, which can be increased to 40 million passengers. The project intends to enhance both the regional connectivity and airport economic development.

The PM of India, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the airport at Bhogapuram and also launched various projects worth ₹17,900 crores in the state on the occasion.
The airport is named after the famous freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, who led the resistance of the indigenous people during the British period.
Bhogapuram Airport is being developed into a contemporary international transportation airport to accommodate the increasing transport demands of Andhra Pradesh, especially in the North Andhra region.
The purpose of the project is to facilitate domestic and international air connectivity in furtherance of the long-term economic strategy of the state.
