All-India Institute of Ayurveda Successfully Hosts 'Saushrutam 2024'
The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi successfully concluded its Second National Seminar SAUSHRUTAM Shalya Sangoshti on July 15, 2024, celebrating Sushruta Jayanti. The three-day event, beginning on July 13, honored Sushruta, the father of surgery, with a series of live surgical demonstrations and expert discussions.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Founder Director of AIIMS Bhopal, as the Chief Guest. Other notable guests included Padamshri Prof. Manoranjan Sahu, Founder Director of AIIA Delhi; Prof. Anurag Srivastav, former HoD of Surgical Disciplines at AIIMS New Delhi; and Dr. MC Misra, former Director of AIIMS. AIIA Director Prof. (Dr) Tanuja Nesari and Prof. Dr. Yogesh Badwe, HoD Shalya Tantra, welcomed the attendees and provided an overview of the seminar.
A key highlight was the live demonstration of 25 complex surgical procedures, providing participants with a unique opportunity to observe and learn from renowned surgeons. The surgeries used both modern techniques like VAAFT, laparoscopy, and laser, as well as traditional Shayla methods, addressing conditions such as fistula-in-ano, hemorrhoids, and gallbladder stones. In the past year, approximately 1,500 patients have benefited from AIIA’s surgical procedures.
On the first day, Prof. Tanuja Nesari, along with the esteemed dignitaries, launched a souvenir and IEC material related to the department. She emphasized AIIA’s dedication to integrating Ayurveda with advanced surgical technology to empower Ayurvedic surgeons.
The third day commenced with the Sushruta Poojan ceremony, followed by a paper presentation competition. The seminar concluded with a valedictory ceremony, where prizes were awarded for the best paper presentations.
The event attracted over 160 participants, including PG/Ph.D. scholars, resident doctors, surgeons, and faculty members from across India. It was also graced by experts from prestigious institutions such as Prof. (Dr.) Laxman Singh from IMS, BHU, Varanasi, and Dr. Bijender Shah from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Prof. (Dr) Yogesh Badwe applauded the dedication of Team Saushrutam for their tireless efforts in making the event a success.
