The Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat clinched the gold medal in men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling during the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan on October 3. He beat Han Chong Song of DPR Korea 11-7 in the tightly contested final. Sehrawat came back from a 7-6 scoreline in the final stages of the game and performed some scoring moves to take the lead and win the gold.
The game started off with a fiercely contested early stage. Sehrawat took an early lead by gaining a 4-1 scoreline. He went further ahead by performing a series of scoring moves to gain a scoreline of 6-1.
However, Han Chong Song managed to come back into the game after a break due to injury to change the scoreline to 7-6. Around one minute to go, Sehrawat got a decisive takedown and turn.
Sehrawat managed to get ahead of his opponent and finally won the match 11-7.
Sehrawat had already clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 57kg division at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in 2023, after the Games were postponed due to a year delay. The win in 2026 therefore is a step up in rank from Hangzhou bronze to Aichi-Nagoya gold in the same weight division.
Aman Sehrawat had won a bronze medal in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Indian wrestler had defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz 13-5 in the bronze-medal match. According to United World Wrestling, Sehrawat was among the two bronze medal winners in the 57kg division.
He had also become India’s youngest Olympic medal winner in an individual event in Paris 2024, according to United World Wrestling. Sehrawat was the sole Indian male wrestler to have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
