Appasaheb Dharmadhikari, who was previously awarded the Padma Shri in 2017, has been chosen to receive the esteemed ‘Maharashtra Bhushan Award’ in 2022. The award comes with a medal, a citation, and a cash prize of Rs. 25 lakh. Interestingly, his father, the late Dr. Narayan Vishnu Dharmadhikari, also known as Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari, was honoured with the same award in 2008 for his work as a preacher and reformer.

About the Appasaheb Dharmadhikari

  • Appasaheb Dharmadhikari played a crucial role in various social and community development activities such as tree planting, blood donation drives, medical camps, promoting gender and tribal empowerment, providing training to children, running literacy centres for adults, arranging job fairs, promoting cleanliness, fighting superstitions, carrying out addiction recovery programs, promoting national unity, and preaching traditional and religious values to the public.
  • The popular gatherings, referred to as ‘Shri Baithaks’, were initiated by his father, Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari, in October 1943 in Raigad. For more than three decades, Appasaheb Dharmadhikari has continued the tradition.
  • In December 2013, the Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan organised the world’s largest medical camp with over 152,000 participants and 1,571 doctors, which set a Guinness World Record.
  • Apart from Maharashtra and India, the Pratishthan has also organised various service camps in countries like the United States, Australia, Singapore, Qatar, and other nations where their followers reside.
