Andhra Pradesh Launches Massive Mushroom Mission Worth ₹13,000 Crore

Andhra Pradesh state government has announced the first Mushroom Mission with the investment around the ₹13,000 crore. Announcement was led by the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and this initiative aims to transform the state into the India’s largest mushroom producer. With the strong focus on to the small farmers, self-help groups and the export opportunities and this mission is expected to create the employment and build a new agri-based value chain across the state.

Andhra Pradesh Mushroom Mission

The proposed mission is the large-scale agricultural initiative designed to the significantly increase mushroom production and rural income.

Key highlights includes the,

  • Total investment of the ₹13,000 crore.
  • It also target the production of 67,500 tonnes annually.
  • It also aim to surpass the Bihar which is currently the top producer with around the 45,000 tonnes.
  • Under the initiative total 1.62 lakh mushroom units across the state.

This initiative positions the Andhra Pradesh as the future leader in mushroom farming in India.

Focus on Small Farmers and Rural Employment

The major feature of the mission is the its focus on to the small and medium-scale production units and making it accessible to rural households.

Each unit will,

  • Cover around the 5,000 sq ft area.
  • Will promote self-employment opportunities.
  • And also support sustainable income generation.

The government also plans to involve the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and specially by encouraging the participation from rural women and small entrepreneurs.

Subsidy Support and Government Funding

To make the project financially viable the government is will offering the strong subsidy support.

  • Total subsidy: ₹5,184 crore
  • It will covers nearly 40% of total project cost
  • And it is funded jointly by Central and State governments.

This financial backing will reduce the burden on the farmers and encourage the wider adoption.

Types of Mushrooms to be Promoted

The mission will focus on to the commercially viable and climate-suitable varieties.

Key varieties includes the,

  • Milky mushroom – Which is heat-resistant and suitable for Indian climate.
  • Paddy straw mushroom – It is the quick growing and profitable mushroom.
  • Button mushroom – Creates the high demand in domestic and export markets

This diversification will ensures the better adaptability and market reach.

Boost to Exports and Agri Value Chain

The Mushroom Mission is not just about the production but it also about the building the strong agri-business ecosystem.

  • As the growing the demand in Gulf countries.
  • Expansion of the processing and supply chains.
  • Will create the new agricultural value chain.

The initiative aims to replicate the success of the India’s millet revolution by creating the new export-oriented sector.
