Sabastian Sawe Creates History with Sub-2 Hour Marathon at London Marathon 2026

Sabastian Sawe has achieved the historical achievement as he completed the an official marathon in under the just two hours. At the London Marathon 2026 event Sawe have clocked an extraordinary 1 hour 59 minutes 30 seconds and rewriting the history and setting the new world record. This achievement not just only shocked the world but also to redefined the limits of the human endurance and placing him among the greatest athletes of all time.

Sawe Breaks the Two-Hour Barrier: A New World Record

The 31 year old Kenyan delivered the performance for the ages by becoming the first athlete to officially run the marathon under two hours.

Key highlights of the record-breaking run,

  • He had finished the marathon in 1:59:30.
  • Also broke the previous record of 2:00:35 set by Kelvin Kiptum.
  • And he maintained an average pace which is equivalent to running 100m in under 17 seconds repeatedly.
  • He also completed the second half in just over 59 minutes.

This performance has widely being compared to the iconic sporting milestones.

The London Marathon 2026 turned into one of the fastest races in the history as the multiple athletes has delivered the exceptional performances.

  • Yomif Kejelcha have finished second and just 11 seconds behind Sawe.
  • Also the Jacob Kiplimo also ran under the previous world record time.
  • In the womens category Tigst Assefa successfully defended her title.

This made the event as one of the most competitive marathons ever.

  • He crossed the halfway point crossed at 60:29.
  • Also in between 30–35 km he covered in 13:54.
  • In between the 35–40 km he was even faster at 13:42.

In the final stretch while others athletes have slowed down but Sawe accelerated and proved his exceptional stamina.

Comparisons with Legendary Sporting Feats

His run is already being compared to some of the greatest moments in the sporting history.

  • The Roger Bannister breaking the 4-minute mile barrier in 1954.
  • Also the Usain Bolt setting the 100m world record in just 9.58 seconds.
