AS Rajeev Appointed as Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission

AS Rajeev was appointed as Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission by the Honourable President of India on 9th February 2024. He took the oath as Vigilance Commissioner on 11th March 2024 before the Central Vigilance Commissioner, who was authorized by the President of India under the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003.

Illustrious Banking Career

Shri AS Rajeev is a career banker with over 38 years of experience across four banks – Syndicate Bank, Indian Bank, Vijaya Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra. During his tenure as the Executive Director in Indian Bank, the bank emerged as one of the strongest and most profitable banks in India, with the lowest non-performing assets and the highest capital adequacy ratio.

Transforming Bank of Maharashtra

As the Managing Director and CEO of Bank of Maharashtra for the last five years, Shri Rajeev played a pivotal role in the bank’s resurgence. Under his leadership, Bank of Maharashtra successfully emerged from the Reserve Bank of India’s Prompt Corrective Action and transformed from a small-sized bank to a robust mid-sized bank.

He effectively led the bank to position it as a top-performing public sector bank in the country, excelling in all major business and profitability parameters while maintaining the best asset quality.

Prominent Roles and Recognitions

Shri Rajeev has served as a Nominee Director in prominent institutions such as EXIM Bank, New India Assurance Co Ltd, and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). He has also held the position of Vice Chairman of the Indian Banks Association and was a member of the Core Group constituted by RBI for the implementation of Indian Accounting Standards.

Swearing-in Ceremony

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior officers from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Central Vigilance Commission.

Central Vigilance Commission

The Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, provides for the appointment of a Central Vigilance Commissioner and two Vigilance Commissioners. The tenure of the Vigilance Commissioner is four years or until the incumbent attains the age of 65 years.
