Ashtalakshmi Festival Starts December 6

The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav 2024, a grand three-day cultural festival, will be held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from December 6th to 8th, 2024. Organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and managed by its CPSE, the North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), the Mahotsav aims to showcase the vibrant cultural and economic potential of Northeast India. The mascot, Purvi, a young girl symbolizing all eight northeastern states, was introduced during the curtain-raiser event.

Artisan Exhibitions

  • Over 250 artisans and entrepreneurs will display handicrafts, handlooms, and agri-horticultural products.
  • A special focus on 34 GI-tagged products, including indigenous fruits and organic produce.
  • Unique galleries like the Eri and Muga Silk Gallery and state-specific pavilions.

Technical Sessions

  • Discussions on women’s leadership, IT, energy, healthcare, sports, arts, and culture.
  • Overarching session: “Towards Prosperity: Catalysing North East’s Progress Towards a Viksit Bharat.”

Investor Roundtable

  • Networking and partnership-building opportunities.
  • Focused on business growth and investments in key sectors.

Buyer-Seller Meets

  • Dedicated to sectors like handlooms, handicrafts, agriculture, horticulture, gems, jewelry, and tourism.

Design Conclave & Fashion Show

  • Showcasing Northeast India’s handloom and handicraft traditions.
  • Knowledge platform for design students and enthusiasts.
  • Fashion show featuring collaborations between artisans and national designers.

Ashtalakshmi Grameen Haat

  • Recreation of Northeast India’s rural markets with 300+ artisans and organic producers showcasing indigenous products.

  • Traditional dances, musical acts, and rich cultural showcases throughout the event.

  • December 6th, 2024: “Ashtalakshmi Symphony” and Shillong Chamber Choir.
  • December 7th, 2024: Performances by PANGPARI (Mizoram), SOFIYUM (Sikkim), and a fashion show by Prasad Bidapa.
  • December 8th, 2024: Acts by BASAV (Manipur), FEATHERHEADS HAOKUI band, Tai Khamti Dance, and guitarist Imnanla Jamir.
