Assam CM Inaugurates 50 MW Solar Project In Sonitpur

The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, performed the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for a 50 MW Solar Project in Sonitpur district. The project, being developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), holds promise for bolstering Assam’s renewable energy sector and contributing to sustainable development.

Project Details

  • The 50 MW Solar Project, costing Rs. 291 crores, will generate 101 million units of green energy in its first year.
  • Over 25 years, it’s expected to produce around 2,319 million units of energy.
  • Assam Power Development Corporation Limited will receive this energy at Rs. 3.92 per unit, enhancing state energy security and sustainability.
  • This project marks a significant milestone in Assam’s journey towards sustainable energy.

Expansion Plans by SJVN

  • SJVN, through its subsidiary SGEL, is concurrently developing three solar projects totaling 320 MW in capacity.
  • This expansion underscores SJVN’s dedication to fostering renewable energy infrastructure in the region.

SJVN’s Legacy and Vision

  • Established in 1988 as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, SJVN Limited has emerged as a key player in the energy sector.
  • With thirteen commissioned projects and a diversified energy portfolio encompassing hydro, thermal, wind, solar, power trading, and transmission, SJVN has been instrumental in India’s energy landscape.

Future Prospects

  • Looking ahead, SJVN has set ambitious targets aligned with the Government of India’s commitment to non-fossil-fuel-based energy sources.
  • The Shared Vision aims for 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040. Such endeavors signify a concerted effort towards a sustainable and resilient energy future for India.
