Assam Enters New Leadership Phase as CM Himanta Sarma Sworn In Again

Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term on 12th of May, 2026. The swearing in ceremony take place at Guwahati in the august presence of the Honorable PM Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers from BJP and NDA ruled state, Cabinet Ministers of central government and other dignitaries. Along with Himanta Sarma four ministers have took the oath of secrecy and marked the third term for NDA government.

On 12th May, Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath Chief Minister of the State of Assam for the 2nd consecutive term. In the year 2021 he became the CM of the state for first time. Under his leadership BJP and its allies have secured the majority for the third consecutive term from the year 2016.

Several national leaders like the PM Modi, Cabinet Ministers and Chief Ministers from BJP & NDA ruled state were present at the event.

On the 4th May, 206 NDA led government in the Assam have secured the two third majority in the recent Assembly Elections.

In which.

BJP had won 82 seats.

BJP’s Allies AGP and BPF secured 10 seats each.

Opposition congress managed to win only 19 seats.

Who Are the 4 Ministers Taking Oath?

Alongside with the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma other four prominent leaders will be sworn in as ministers.

1. Rameswar Teli

He is a former Union Minister of State and he returned to state politics and won from Duliajan constituency with the big margin.

2. Atul Bora

Current President of AGP as he is an experienced leader who has handled the multiple key portfolios like agriculture and urban development since 2016.

3. Charan Boro

A senior leader from BPF ally of BJP and he has represented Majbat constituency since 2016 and will brings the experience in governance.

4. Ajanta Neog

She is veteran BJP leader and Assam’s first woman Finance Minister and she has been elected consecutively since 2001.

Oath Ceremony Details: A Grand Event in Guwahati

The swearing in ceremony was held at Khanapara Veterinary College field in Guwahati.

The oath will be administered by Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam.

Speaker Nomination and Key Legislative Update

The Senior BJP leader Ranjeet Kumar Dass has been nominated as the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.

  • He previously served as Speaker in 2016.
  • And also held ministerial roles in earlier governments.

This signals the continuity and experience in legislative functioning.
