What is Bal Aadhar?

Bal Aadhar is issued to children below the age of 5 years. It is a blue-colored card which differentiates it from the Aadhar card issued to adults. The Bal Aadhar doesn’t require any biometric details of children below 5 years. After the children reach the age of 5, biometric updates will be mandatory. Till 31st March 2022, 2.64 crore children between the age group of 0-5 had Bal Aadhar, whereas the count increased only up to 3.43 crore in July 2022.

Why biometric is not required for Bal Aadhar?

During the age of 0-5 years, biometrics are not developed for children. The biometric updates cannot be scanned for Bal Aadhar as there will be very less chances of getting it done. Children between the age of 0-5 are not fully grown therefore they do not have to update biometrics for Bal Aadhar.
