BDU Professor Wins TANSA Award for Environmental Science
Dr. R. Arthur James, Professor and Chair of the Department of Marine Science at Bharathidasan University (BDU), has been honoured with the prestigious Tamil Nadu Scientist Award (TANSA) 2022 in the field of Environmental Science.
The award, instituted by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TANSA), is one of the highest recognitions for scientists in the state. It highlights exceptional contributions made by individuals in various fields of science and research.
The award was presented at a special ceremony held at the Resource Centre for Tribal Development, Udhagamandalam. It carries a cash prize of ₹50,000 and a citation, symbolising the State government’s encouragement of scientific excellence.
The honour was conferred by Govi. Chezhiaan, Minister for Higher Education, along with M. P. Saminathan, Minister for Tamil Development, Information and Publicity.
According to a press release from Bharathidasan University, the award celebrates Professor James’ outstanding contributions to environmental science, especially in advancing marine research and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
His work in the field has been recognised as both academically significant and socially relevant, contributing to policies and practices that address contemporary ecological challenges.
The TANSA awards are presented annually by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology to honour scientists who have demonstrated excellence in various disciplines.
