Hardoi is situated in the Lucknow Commissionerate of Uttar Pradesh. It shares borders with several districts like Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kanpur, Farrukhabad and Sitapur. The Gomti River separates Hardoi from Sitapur.

Hardoi is 125.529 km long from northwest to southeast and 74.83 km wide from east to west. The district covers a total area of 5,989 square kilometers.

History and Culture of Hardoi

Hardoi has a rich historical and cultural background. According to mythology, Hardoi is related to Hiranyakashipu, a figure in Hindu mythology. The name Hardoi is believed to be a distorted vision of its earlier name, Hardoi, which means “anti to the God.”
