Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has recently clinched a significant order worth Rs.4,522 crore from the Indian Army. The contract, signed on December 15, 2023, marks a strategic milestone for BEL and the Indian Army. Maj Gen Gurpreet Singh Choudhary, SM, VSM [JS (Army and TA)/ DMA], and Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, CMD, BEL, officially inked the deal in the presence of Vice Admiral Atul Anand, AVSM, VSM, Additional Secretary (DMA). The requirement for the indigenization of critical technologies was a pivotal aspect of the tender, aligning with the nation’s push for self-reliance.
The project’s inclusion of various electronic and associated industries, especially MSMEs, underscores the collaborative and inclusive approach of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ programme. BEL’s role as a catalyst in this initiative not only strengthens the defense sector but also boosts the indigenous manufacturing ecosystem.
Apart from the Rs.4,522 crore order, BEL has also secured additional orders valued at Rs.356 crores since the last disclosure on December 6, 2023. These orders encompass a range of products, including Electronic Warfare (EW) Testers, Medical Systems for Exports, Consumables and Batteries for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Night Vision Devices Spares and Services. The diversification of orders showcases BEL’s versatility and its significant contribution to various sectors.
With the recent orders, BEL has cumulatively received contracts totaling Rs.23,176 crores (excluding taxes) in the current financial year 2023-24. This achievement underscores the company’s robust performance and its pivotal role in bolstering India’s defense capabilities and self-reliant goals.
