Bengaluru hosts Kambala races
The city of Bengaluru witnessed history in the making as it hosted its first-ever Kambala event, a spectacle that captivated over 11 lakh visitors. The event not only showcased the thrill of buffalo racing but also treated Bengalureans to a delightful experience of coastal cuisine and vibrant cultural performances.
The Bengaluru Kambala track at Palace Grounds transformed into a visual feast, with one side adorned by individuals dressed as folk characters from Tulunadu. These lively figures not only added to the cultural richness of the event but also engaged the crowd in posing for selfies and entertaining them throughout the festivities.
As buffaloes thundered down the track with their skilled jockeys, the crowd was on the edge of their seats. Adding a touch of glamour to the event, popular actors from Tulunadu, including Pooja Hegde, Sanjana Galrani, Sonal Monteiro, Rakshit Shetty, and Upendra, graced the occasion.
With the races commencing since Saturday, numerous teams had qualified for the quarter and semi-finals. Post races, an LED screen replayed the thrilling matches, allowing the audience to relive the excitement and share in the triumphs of the participants.
In a special moment, a buffalo that had accumulated over 200 medals and emerged as the consecutive winner in numerous championships was felicitated at the Bengaluru Kambala. This gesture highlighted the significance of the bond between the racing buffaloes and their achievements, adding a sentimental touch to the event.
As GS Puspa Latham, a member of the organizing committee, revealed, the races continued until the early hours of Monday, promising a grand finale to this historic Kambala event. The winners, who had displayed extraordinary skill and determination, were to be announced, marking the conclusion of a memorable weekend for Bengaluru and its residents.
