The Bharat Forge has signed the MoU with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish the India’s first private-sector marine gas turbine facility in Visakhapatnam. This Strategically important reduce the India’s dependence on foreign marine propulsion servicing while along with strengthening the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Bharat Forge will set up the country’s first private marine gas turbine repair and overhaul unit in the Visakhapatnam.
This agreement was signed during the Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Conclave in Puttaparthi.
The MoU was signed by the Guru Biswal, CEO-Aerospace, Bharat Forge Limited, and defense scientist Dr G Satheesh Reddy, former DRDO Chairman.

Visakhapatnam holds the major strategic importance for the India’s defense sector.
The city is home to the Naval Dockyard and the Eastern Naval Command and makes it an ideal location for naval support infrastructure.
Also the growing industrial ecosystem also makes it suitable for aerospace and defense expansion.
This location also helps to ensure faster servicing, reduced downtime and better operational readiness for the Indian Navy.
The upcoming facility will offer the complete Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) repair and overhaul capabilities.
This also includes the blade restoration, rotor balancing, combustor liner repairs, advanced component manufacturing, testing infrastructure and 24×7 operational support.
For the first time in India, private sector will have end-to-end capabilities in this critical naval technology segment.
This is expected to reduce the total dependence on overseas repair ecosystems.
Marine propulsion systems are highly specialized strategic technologies important for the defense.
India has traditionally heavily relied on the foreign technical support for maintenance and servicing in this segment.
This Bharat Forge project could change that.
The move also aligns directly with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission to build self-reliance in critical defense technologies.
Bharat Forge will also establish the well equipped R&D and testing hub as part of the project.
This is expected to support the future indigenous marine turbine development program.
Research capabilities can accelerate the innovation in propulsion systems and it will reduce long-term import dependence.
This could become the strategic important asset for India’s strategic defense ecosystem.
